British Moth Open  Thanks to all those who made our British Moth visitors welcome on Saturday and Sunday.  The first Moth open at Whitemere was a great success and the class website is full of praise for the friendliness of members, good sailing and the beauty of Whitemere.  Our visitors, from Suffolk, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire, included the class chairman and fixture secretary and they went away with a very positive view of our club, hopefully to return next year.

NEW DATE Junior Day, 17th July:  Run by club members and parents, this is aimed at everyone who likes messing about on boats, playing games and getting (Chris Adlington) wet the next one is now planned for the 17th July (was 3rd July).  There is no cost, but it would help to know in advance how many are coming so let the Junior Fleet Captain (Paul Dutton) know, email: Junior Fleet Captain.  If any parents can help ashore, or in a safety boat, that would be great.  Important Small Print:  We want to be on the water at 2pm.  Sailors/parents need to arrive in time (1.30pm latest) to sign in, change and help rig for a 2pm launch.  Afterwards sailors/parents should put away the boat they have been using.  The session ends at 4pm.  If anyone sails on beyond that it is under usual club rules and, yes, they must still put their boat away!

Feva Nationals  FOUR of Shropshire Sailing Club's junior sailors performed excellently in the RS Feva national championships.  Siblings Rob and Becca Morris finished 10th overall while brothers George and Ed Shelley came 24th out of 115 boats.  The three day event at Hayling Island SC, near Southampton, started badly. The first day was completely lost to high winds and heavy seas.  On the second day, with still strong winds and a half-metre swell, George, aged 16, and Ed, aged 13, had a disastrous start to their campaign when their kicker snapped 10 seconds before the start gun for the first race.   Forced to abandon to make repairs, the brothers knew they could not afford a mistake thereafter.  But their final two race results that day were enough to lift them into the top half of the qualifying group.  A ninth in one of the final day's two races clinched their placing.
Meanwhile, Rob, aged 15, and Becca, aged 13 had a strong opening series, recording a second place as they finished the first day in eighth place overall.  Their final day performances were also strong, again in challenging conditions, and the pair wrapped up a very good final placing.  The event, which attracts, some of the best young sailors in the country, proved a physical challenge in the weather conditions. Seven masts were broken, while one competitor suffered a dislocated shoulder during a capsize.  The overall winner was a crew from Burghfield SC.

Broadband Arrives!   Broadband has been enabled at the club and we have successfully setup and tested the wireless router.  Members are able to link to the web (password will be circulated) and the Club Race Management Computer will be linked so results can be quickly sent to our Press Officer and Dutyman can be checked from the clubhouse.  The next step will be a webcam and eventually an on-line weather station so you can check the wind conditions at Whitemere before you set out!
